How'd I do? (Apple's Sept. 1st Media Event Predictions)
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 4:05PM
iPod nano
Right:
Touchscreen, iOS design cues but it doesn't run iOS, and FM radio.
Wrong:
Camera. Can't believe they took it away. See last year's introduction to get the sense that it was a 'huge' addition that customers wanted. Guess not.
iPod shuffle
Right:
New colors, adjusted prices
Wrong:
Not same form, not higher capacity ( only 2GB).
iPod Touch
Right:
Retina, VGA cam on front, FaceTime.
Wrong:
Rear camera. It's not even the 3.2mp, I predicted, but literally just shy of 0.7 megapixels, with capped 960x720 still resolution. Ouch. Radio feature.
Apple TV:
Right:
Name, it's still called Apple TV. Works with the aluminum remote, and in fact, comes with it. Works with "Remote" iPhone app. Runs iOS but a touch API-less version (Confirmed by John Gruber). Netflix at launch. Flickr at Launch. Undisclosed on-board memory for OS and apps (a stretch, perhaps, but true). No hard drive.
Wrong:
No Pandora, Facebook, or Twitter. No new SDK, no new App Store. Launch date.
iTunes:
Right:
Figured a new version would be available but not a significant release like "10."
Wrong:
Didn't predict version "10," and obviously not PING.
iLife '11:
Right:
Nothing.
Wrong:
Everything.
